Artistry Of Permanent Makeup San Diego - FAQs

Q: I read online somewhere that it's more sanitary to get permanent makeup done in a doctor's office rather than a salon. Is this true?
A: I can't speak for any other permanent makeup artist or salon, but I can assure you that I take every necessary step to ensure that all of the equipment used in a procedure is sterilized and sanitary.

As far as getting it done in a doctor’s office, most likely, the doctor is not going to be the one doing the procedure because it's not what he specializes in. So then - who will be doing the procedure(s) and what credentials do they have? How many faces have they worked on? How good is their eye for creating an aestetically pleasing look? These are the questions you should also take into consideration when deciding who should be working on your face.

I've worked on thousands of faces over my 25 years in the Beauty Industry and 9 years as a Permanent Makeup Artist, so I bring a wealth of experience coupled with solid artistic skills. I do have some Before & After photos in the galleries on this site right now, and more are being added every week; However - when you come and visit me in person, you can look through my books of faces that I've worked on, and you can see for yourself exactly what I've done over the years, and the quality of work you can expect to receive at Artistry Of Permanent Makeup.

Q: What is the recovery period?
A: Some clients may experience slight swelling or bruising and is usually not noticable. Most can return to normal daily activities right away.

Q: Do you think it's worth the price?
A: Of course, I DO! It is comparable to what most women spend on hair styling, hair color, "perms," and normal maintenance. Considering that "Permanent Makeup" lasts for years before a "touch up" is needed, it is relatively inexpensive.

Q: Who helps me to choose my colors?
A: Deanna Lien has been involved in the "Beauty Industry" for over 25 years, and is highly qualified to help you make the right decision. She has a tremendous artistic background, as well as a great eye for what will work on someone's face. Deanna takes into consideration your natural skin color, hair color, and eye color. A soft, natural color is always preferred, and Deanna will do her best to deliver the most natural look for you.

Q: What happens during a follow-up procedure?
A: I request that all of my clients come back in within 2 - 4 months for a follow-up procedure so that I can make any necessary touchups or adjustments. Inks can fade slightly if you spend additional time in the sun, so during this follow-up procedure, I may or may not perform an additional touch-up procedure. Some clients need a touchup while some don't.

I also ask that people come in so that I can take a "healed" photo of your face for my books - and, possibly the website. Although you may feel that you don't need a touchup, I prefer to make the decision as I've been at this for a long time, and I'm the expert in this area.

Q: What happens if I don't come in for my 2 - 4 month follow-up procedure?
A: That's your choice to not come in, but if you call me in 5 months saying that you want to get some areas touched up, there WILL be a fee to perform the touchups. In fact, it may require more than touchups, and the fee may be more than you're expecting. The 2 - 4 month follow-up procedure is part of the price, but miss that 2 - 4 month window and you can expect to pay for the procedure.
